From the introduction of the website (http://www.launchy.net/),
Launchy is a free windows and linux utility designed to help you forget about your start menu, the icons on your desktop, and even your file manager.
Launchy indexes the programs in your start menu and can launch your documents, project files, folders, and bookmarks with just a few keystrokes!
Just like what it said, I now have a “well-organized” desktop that don’t even have an icon.

Desktop with Launchy
It is really great that I can still reach my working directory/ folder pretty fast. With the right configuration, I can reach my folder by pressing alt+space and then type in the folder name. It is very useful when you put your courses’ material under the course’s code.

Working Launchy

Mis-typing
It works even if I type the wrong name for the folder!
Here are my organized folders under the directory of Kwong. Basically I put useful stuff in this directory. Once you have organized the files, you would find the significance of efficiency improvement.

Why need organizing folder/ files?
1) Easier backup
2) Combining with Launchy, you can reach folder by press keyboard instead of clicking several folder…
Let’s see how it works!
After downloading the Launchy, you can start it by pressing alt+space.
To configure the application, press the gear wheel on the top-right corner.

You can just add your personal directory (pressing +).

Make sure you click “include directories”.
Launchy can also be used for Web Searching. Just invoke Launchy, type Youtube/Wikipedia, press Tab, then enter the word you’re looking up.

Actually, there are many other features for you to look into. So just download Launchy and try it yourself!
